Scientists Discover New Deep-Sea Creatures Capable of Photosynthesis
A research team from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography has announced the discovery of three new species of marine organisms in the Mariana Trench capable of photosynthesis. These creatures, belonging to a previously unknown species, inhabit depths exceeding 6,000 meters, where sunlight is virtually nonexistent. Scientists hypothesize that these organisms utilize chemosynthesis, harnessing the chemical light emitted from hydrothermal vents, or possess an unknown energy conversion mechanism. This discovery challenges existing theories about the limits of life on Earth and opens new avenues in the study of deep-sea ecosystem biology. Further research is planned for next year to determine the precise mechanism of photosynthesis in these creatures and to study their genetic code.
