Senator Proposes New AI-Era Data Privacy Law

Senator Amelia Green today introduced a new bill aimed at modernizing data privacy laws in light of the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. The bill, known as the "AI Era Data Protection Act," proposes a number of new data protections, including stricter rules for companies using AI to collect and analyze personal information, and new rights for individuals to control the use of their data. Key provisions include requiring companies to obtain explicit consent for the collection and use of data for AI system training; granting citizens the right to access data used to build AI-driven profiles; and providing the right to have that data deleted. The bill also establishes an independent body to oversee compliance with the new rules. Senator Green stated that this legislation is necessary to protect citizens from potential harms posed by AI systems and to build trust in AI technologies. Critics, however, express concerns that the new regulations may unduly stifle AI innovation.
